Our Projects

Commercial & Industrial Projects

Tourism plays a major role in our local economy. Cherenzia Excavation continues to be a part of this large industry by its part in the construction of several major projects. These projects include area golf course expansions and new construction. We participated in the construction of the world's largest casino, Foxwoods, and were the site contractor for the expansion of Mystic Marinelife Aquarium.

Cherenzia Excavation has also served the retail business community. We have worked for national giants such as BJ's Wholesale, A&P Supermarket, Home Depot, and Wal-Mart. Some projects have included the demolition of old stores to new construction on an 88-acre site.

Ocean House Site work and utilities: The Ocean House is a historic landmark in Watch Hill, RI. Following the complete demolition of the existing building, the site was excavated to accommodate a new sewer system and foundations. The sewer system included 11 fiberglass tanks ranging from 200 gallons to 50,000 gallons. A 30-foot tall cut adjacent to the building foundation was soil nailed. Rock was processed on-site to meet strict job specification requirements.

Sub-Base NLON Steam Line Replacement: Cherenzia Excavation in conjunction with P&D Mechanical removed and replaced 2800 linear feet of steam line at 8 locations throughout the sub-base. Remediation at various locations was required.

Readco: All onsite and offsite site work and underground utilities necessary for a new shopping plaza to include a bank, Stop and Shop and future lot for possible restaurants. Offsite work included widening Route 2, an existing four-lane highway to accommodate plaza entrance.

Sub-Base NLON Drainage Replacement: Installed 3,547 linear feet of reinforced concrete pipe and 47 catch basins and drainage manholes to improve drainage in two locations on the Sub-Base. The project included asbestos remediation at two locations, extensive ledge removal and the installation of two massive manholes measuring 10 feet in diameter.

Westerly DPW: Cherenzia Excavation brought site up to grade, installed sidewalks, loamed and seeded and paved parking area. Landfill contained contaminated soils. The landfill was capped by Cherenzia Excavation and paved over to meet direct exposure criteria standards.

Residential Projects

Our residential projects have included multi-family complexes, subdivisions, and elderly housing projects. We have completed all three phases of the Stoneridge assisted living facility. Cherenzia Excavation has the experience and ability to assist owners/architects in turnkey projects from the budgeting and planning stages all the way to the finished project.

Fountain Crest: A design/build project that consisted of constructing 76 condominium units from permitting to completion. Cherenzia Excavation completed site work, built the 4 unit condo buildings and installed utilities on the property. Acreage was donated to the Town of Westerly for conservation purposes.

Mastuxet Terrace:  Project included the design/build of 23 luxury townhouse condominiums located in Westerly, RI. Office building on site was kept open during the duration of project.

Dunes Park:  The association of owners located at Misquamicut Beach upgraded the electrical, water, and sewer services to the existing mobile home sites. The project consisted of installing a 48,000-gallon and a 25,000-gallon septic tank system with discharge to an 8,700 square foot bottomless sand filter. Cherenzia Excavation obtained a discharge permit for site dewatering using in house engineering.

Stoneridge Retirement Living Community: The project consisted of three phases of infrastructure for the development of an elderly care facility. Buildings are 5 stories tall. The project area was adjacent to an environmentally sensitive area owned by Avalonia Land Trust.
